DANVILLE, Ky. – Centre women's basketball dropped a 63-52 decision against Berry Sundya afternoon in Alumni Gymnasium, seeing its three-game winning streak come to an end.
The Vikings (3-5) frustrated the Colonels (3-5) all game, limiting the home team to a 36% shooting mark while finishing with a 39-33 rebounding edge.
HIGHLIGHTS
- A slow start offensively hurt the Colonels, as the visiting Vikings raced out to a 9-2 lead after Centre hit just one of its first eight shot attempts.
- On the other end, Berry shot 53% and hit a trio of 3-pointers to open a 23-11 advantage through one quarter.
- The Colonels slowed the Vikings down in the second, and got major contributions from
Natalie Duggins to pull within 34-25 by halftime. Duggins had 10 points and four rebounds in 12 first-half minutes.
- Centre seemed poised to erase the deficit in the third quarter, cutting Berry's lead to 40-36 midway through the period following a 3-pointer from
Kylee Murray.
- Berry withstood the run, however, and stretched its lead back to a dozen, 50-38, heading to the final frame.
- The Colonels made a late comeback bid, but the Vikings did enough at the charity stripe to secure the victory.
