LOOKOUT MOUNTAIN, Ga. – Playing for the first time in 2021, Centre softball suffered a pair of losses at Covenant Saturday afternoon by scores of 8-0 and 10-2.
The Colonels begin the season 0-2 while the Scots improve to 2-8.
GAME ONE: Covenant 8, Centre 0 (5 innings)
- Saturday's opener began as a classic pitchers' duel between Centre's
Amanda Morgan and Covenant's Lauren Kierpa.
- Morgan didn't allow a hit until the fourth inning, but it proved to be a costly one. The Scots loaded the bases on two hit-by-pitches and a walk, and Aileen Hill delivered a two-out double that cleared the bases.
- Covenant ended the game in the following frame, plating five runs on three hits to signal the run rule.
GAME TWO: Covenant 10, Centre 2 (5 innings)
- The Scots jumped on the Colonels early in the second game, leading off with a homerun while scoring three total runs in the bottom of the first.
-
Lucy Baseheart came on in early relief, and stranded six runners in the first three innings alone to limit the damage.
- In the top of the fourth, rookie
Kaylee Gregory delivered a two-out single that scored
Melissa Collins, who had reached on a double to left center.
Mia Tomillo followed with a pinch-hit base knock that brought home Gregory, pulling Centre within 3-2.
- Much like they did in the opening game, the Scots erupted in the fifth inning to end the game. They scored seven on six hits and an error to complete the DH sweep.
