DANVILLE, Ky. – The Centre men's lacrosse team improved to 4-1 on the year with a comfortable victory over the Wittenberg Tigers. The Colonels exacted a measure of revenge on Wittenberg, who defeated them in last season's opener, with a 14-6 win.
HIGHLIGHTS
- The Colonels got off to one of their best starts of the young season, scoring a pair of goals in the fourth minute as
Jack Shannon and
Ridr Knowlton provided the scores. Centre increased its lead to 4-0 at the end of the first period following two goals by
Chase Poplin.

Drew Greenblatt opened the scoring for the Colonels in the second quarter. After Wittenberg got on the board for their first goal, Centre reeled off five straight goals to take a 10-1 lead going into halftime. Shannon and
Will Hubbs each scored twice during the stretch, while Knowlton,
Christian Underhill and
Padraic Dermody all had assists in the 5-0 run.
- Centre quickly added to the lead in the third period as Shannon scored his fourth goal of the game in the opening minute of the quarter. Another goal by Knowlton made it 12-1 before the Tigers scored twice to end the quarter.
- In the fourth quarter, Wittenberg scored first, but Centre stopped the Tigers' rally with two goals in less than two minutes. Poplin scored on a man-up opportunity and then Knowlton fortuitously stole the ball from the Wittenberg keeper and fired one into the cage for Centre's 14th and final goal of the contest.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Shannon led the way for the Colonels with four goals, with Knowlton and Poplin each scoring three times.
- The Colonels assisted on half of their 14 goals, with Underhill and
Nic Malubay leading with two helpers each.
- Centre had a huge advantage of 37-17 in ground balls.
Dylan Croft led the way with eight, followed by
Will Morrison with seven.
- Another key to the victory was on face-offs, as the Colonels controlled possession, winning 18 of 24, with Croft winning 13.

Wills McCutcheon was outstanding in net, stopping 11 shots while only allowing four goals.
