DANVILLE, Ky. – Centre softball brought home its first victory of the 2021 season Saturday, splitting a doubleheader against Millsaps.
The Colonels won the opener 10-1 before dropping game two, 3-2, improving to 1-9 overall and 1-4 in Southern Athletic Association play. The Majors are 6-5 (4-2 SAA) after Saturday's twin bill.
GAME ONE: Centre 10, Millsaps 1 (5 inn.)
- Millsaps opened the scoring in the first inning, but Centre quickly took control in the next frame.
Kaylee Gregory,
Sawyer Lecius and
Brylin Isaacs each delivered RBIs to make it 3-1 after two complete.
- Following a three-up, three-down inning from
Lucy Baseheart, the Colonels added two more in the bottom of the third.
Melissa Collins drove in a run on a sacrifice fly, and Gregory brought home
Sarah Fly on a single to center.

Loran Trent began a five-run sixth with a RBI that scored Lecius. Later in the inning, Collins doubled to center field to bring home Trent and
Haley Simon.
- Gregory then came up big again, sending a single to right that plated Fly and Collins.
- Baseheart pitched all five innings for Centre, striking out four while allowing just three hits.
GAME TWO: Millsaps 3, Centre 2 (10 inn.)
- The Majors rebounded to defeat the Colonels in extras in Saturday's second game.
- Centre got a two-out RBI single from Trent in the bottom of the third, scoring
Amanda Morgan.
- Morgan was putting in a tremendous effort in the circle for the Colonels, as well. She wound up pitching all 10 innings, scattering six hits while surrendering just one earned run.
- Millsaps totaled two unearned runs in the top of the 10th. Centre got one run back in the bottom of the frame, as Collins brought in Simon on a sacrifice fly, but the Majors eventually closed the door.
