DANVILLE, Ky. – Centre women's soccer earned its first victory of the 2021 spring season Saturday, defeating visiting Berry by a 2-1 margin on Andrew P. Amend Field after rookie
Megan Sidaway converted a golden goal in overtime.
The Colonels (1-1-1) begin the Southern Athletic Association slate on the right foot, with the result against the Vikings (1-2-0) marking their 35th consecutive regular season conference win in a row, dating to the 2015 season. Including SAA Tournament matches, Centre has defeated SAA competition in 50 straight outings.
Centre has still not lost a league match since 2014.
HIGHLIGHTS
- Centre wasted no time getting on the board, as
Rilee Britton scored on a left-footed blast after the ball deflected off a Berry defender.
- Rookie
Bri Tilley shook a defender and nearly doubled the lead in the 38th minute, but her shot went a foot wide of the mark.
- Although Centre had 13 shots throughout the period, the second half was shaping up to be relatively uneventful
- In the 86th minute, however, Berry's Karsen Brantley hit the back of the net on a shot from distance.

Abby Hegarty put one final attempt on frame late in regulation, but it was stopped by the Viking keeper.
- Early in the extra period, Sidaway snuck home the game-winner, taking advantage of a loose ball in front of the goal.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Centre out-shot Berry by a wide 23-5 margin, including 12-2 in shots on goal. Mullen led Centre's effort with four attempts, but a total of 11 Colonels had at least one try.
