Centre draws even with DePauw in 2021 spring opener

GREENCASTLE, Ind. – Centre women's soccer began its modified spring season Tuesday evening, finishing with a 1-1 draw against DePauw at Reavis Stadium.

The Colonels (0-0-1) out-shot the Tigers (0-0-1) by a wide 22-5 margin, including 14-2 across the second half and extra periods, but the home side managed to escape with a tie after a few timely stops.

HIGHLIGHTS
- Sarah Sirkin opened the scoring in the 13th minute, slotting home a pass from Brooke Smithson into the bottom right corner of the goal.
- DePauw's Maya Caltry leveled the score late in the first half, and, despite attempted answers from Maggie Corbett and Megan Sidaway, the score remained 1-1 heading into the break.
- After a somewhat back and forth first half, Centre dominated possession in the second, nearly regaining the lead on several occasions. DePauw's Reanna Stiehler came up with four saves in as many minutes midway through the frame, including a diving stop on a shot from Sirkin.
- Mills Mullen likewise had a late chance, hitting the woodwork in the 86th minute, but after regulation the sides were still even at 1-1.
- Sirkin nearly ended the game late in the first extra session, crossing up her defender to set up a left-footed shot that was stopped by the keeper Stiehler.
- In the second overtime, a late DePauw foul set up free kick on the edge of the 18-yard box, but Kristin Dean's curling shot grazed the top of the crossbar.
