Game Recap: Women's Lacrosse | | Kyle Piercy, Assistant Athletic Director for Communications

Shorthanded Colonels wallop Stormy Petrels for sixth straight win

DANVILLE, Ky. – Down a handful of key contributors, Centre women's lacrosse put together an all-around effort in a 21-5 rout against visiting Oglethorpe Saturday morning at South Campus Field.

The Colonels improve to 6-1 overall and 3-0 in the Southern Athletic Association, sending Oglethorpe home 3-2 overall and 1-1 in-conference. Centre also moves to 10-0 all-time against the Stormy Petrels.

Lily Gahm recorded five goals and five assists, coming one point shy of matching Centre's single-game record.

HIGHLIGHTS
- Reigning SAA Offensive Player of the Week, Bella Tacogue, got the game started with the opening two goals within the first two minutes.
- Sloan Reding later made it 4-0 after shaking a defender and finding the back of the net.
- Gahm had a hat trick with barely 12 minutes off the game clock, making it 6-1 after slashing toward the goal and getting an assist from Reding.
- Hannah Rodell made it 7-1 seconds later on an unassisted goal from the right wing.
- Tacogue scored in transition later in the half, and followed with a goal off a rebound from a goalie save, pushing the score up to 11-1.
- Centre went into the half leading 12-2, with Madeleine Longmeyer joining the aforementioned players to provide scoring for the home side.
- Although the offense scored a dozen goals on 32 shots, Centre's defensive effort devastated Oglethorpe's chances throughout the opening 30 minutes, forcing 20 turnovers while allowing just 8 of 17 successful clear attempts.
- That trend continued into the second half where, despite trading goals early, the Colonels ran away with a running-clock victory.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Centre held Oglethorpe to 15 of 29 on clear attempts while forcing 31 turnovers. The Colonels had a season-high 18 caused turnovers, with Clare Heaney recording six. Katy Haering, McKenna Hulette, Bri Hendricks and Rodell each had multiple CTOs, as well.
- Gahm's 10 points was one shy of the single-game record, originally set by Jacqueline Anderson in 2013 and matched by Hannah Bellamah in 2018.
- Reding provided a career-high eight points with four goals and as many assists, and Tacogue continued her prolific campaign with four scores.
- Hulette, Longmeyer and Ella Treinen scored two apiece, and Heaney added her first goal of the season late in the contest.
- Centre was successful on 22 of 23 clear attempts, and held a 29-17 advantage in ground balls. Hulette and Rodell had five each.
- Emma Botts led the team with five draw controls.
- Lola Duff recorded seven saves for the Colonels.
