MEMPHIS, Tenn. – A slow start doomed the Centre women's lacrosse team as they fell to the undefeated Rhodes Lynx in a battle for first place in the Southern Athletic Association. Centre fell behind 14-3 at halftime and lost 22-9.
GAME HIGHLIGHTS
- Rhodes quickly took a 2-0 lead, scoring twice in the first 90 seconds of the contest. The Colonels answered back as
Mary Katherine Hardy scored to cut the deficit in half. Rhodes responded with two goals in 16 seconds, eventually going up 5-1 before Hardy's second scoring tally of the half.
- From there, the Lynx made a flurry, outscoring the Colonels 9-0 over the next 15 minutes before
Bella Tacogue put home the final goal of the half in the final minute of play.
- In the second half, Rhodes scored the first two goals before Centre had its longest uninterrupted scoring run of the game, scoring three times in a row on goals by Hardy,
Lily Gahm and
McKenna Hulette to cut the lead to 16-6. Following two more Lynx goals, Tacogue scored two in a row on assists by Gahm and Hardy to once again cut it to 10.
- Gahm's goal with less than two minutes to go was the only goal for the Colonels in the final five minutes as Rhodes extended its lead to the final margin of 22-9.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Hardy and Tacogue led Centre with three goals each. Gahm had two goals and two assists to tie Hardy for the team lead with four points.
- The Lynx doubled up the Colonels in shots with a 40-20 advantage and held a huge advantage of 23-8 in draw controls, normally a strong statistical category for Centre this season.
- Turnovers were nearly identical for each team, with Hardy forcing a game high four Lynx turnovers.

Centre women's lacrosse will return to action on Sunday with another game against Rhodes. Sunday's game will not count on either team's conference record.
