Colonels upended by no. 13 Panthers in volleyball doubleheader

DANVILLE, Ky. – The Centre volleyball team welcomed its first ranked opponent of the season to Alumni Gym as the 13th ranked Birmingham-Southern Panthers came to town for a doubleheader. The Colonels hung tough against the Panthers, but fell twice in straight sets.

GAME 1 HIGHLIGHTS

- BSC used a 6-0 run midway through the first set to break open a close game and never let the Colonels back in it, winning by a score of 25-16.
- In the second set, Centre played much better, grabbing their biggest lead of the period at 15-9 on a kill by Savanna Roper. The Panthers rebounded, eventually tying the score at 20 and scoring five of the next seven to win 25-22.
- The third set was back and forth as the lead exchanged hands several times. Trailing 21-17, the Colonels got back into the game thanks to the serving of Kylie Cochran as her ace capped off a run of four straight to tie the score. But much like the previous set, Berry responded after a timeout and scored the last four points to take a 25-21 win.

GAME 2 HIGHLIGHTS

- BSC built their lead in the early stages of the opening set, but the Colonels chipped away, tying the score at 16-16 following an ace by Meredith Phillips. The Panthers reeled off the next five, and although Centre cut the lead to 22-21 following a Madison McCabe kill, they could get no closer as BSC took a 25-22 win.
- The Panthers quickly took care of business in the second set, using runs of 7-0 and 9-1 to win by a score of 25-12.
- In the third set, Centre took its biggest lead at 13-9, but BSC played lights out the rest of the way, allowing the Colonels to score just three more points in a 25-16 win.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORES

- Alice Rodgerson led Centre with 18 kills across the two games, recording nine in each.
- Lily Hendricks returned to the lineup for the first time since week 1 and led the Colonels in digs in both games.
- The Panthers were dominant at the net, holding a 14-8 edge over the Colonels in blocks for the doubleheader.
