DANVILLE, Ky. – The Centre volleyball team played its final home games of the season and paid tribute to the class of 2021 as they faced the no. 9 Berry Vikings in doubleheader action. The Colonels played well against the Vikings, but couldn't get over the hump as Berry took both matches in straight sets.
GAME 1 HIGHLIGHTS
- Berry grabbed the early lead in the opening set and extended it to 13-7 before Centre went on a 5-0 run, including a kill from
Brooke Palmer and two from
Savanna Roper. The Vikings would later score six straight to break open a close set and take a 25-17 win.
- The Vikings opened the second set with the first six points, but the Colonels quickly closed the gap with six of the next seven as
Katie Hall contributed a kill and a block during the run. From there, Berry gradually extended its lead to 17-12 before Centre rallied to tie the score at 20-20. Berry would score the next three points, but
Eleanor Davis, seeing her first action since the first week of the season, scored the next two points on a kill and a block. Berry would rebound to force a set point, and while Davis was able to fend it off the first time, the Vikings put home the final kill on a 25-23 win.
- In the third set, Centre scored three of the first four points, but Berry would soon flex its collective muscle, scoring 14 of the next 15 points to take command of the set, eventually winning 25-10.
GAME 2 HIGHLIGHTS
- The first set of the second game was close throughout, with Berry holding a small lead and holding the Colonels at bay, and while they never led by more than five points, they never surrendered their lead, winning 25-20.
- The Colonels held the lead in the early part of the second set, holding their biggest edge at 12-8 following a kill by
Madison McCabe. Berry answered with a run of six straight to take the lead, and while Centre rallied to tie it again at 14-14, once Berry took the lead on the next point, they never relinquished the lead despite Centre cutting it to a single point three more times as Berry won 25-21.
- The third set played out in a similar fashion, as Berry held the early lead and fended off Centre rallies throughout. The Colonels put together a run to tie the score at 15-15, capped off by a kill from
