Colonels swept by No. 18 Panthers in SAA twin bill

DANVILLE, Ky. – Centre softball dropped a pair of games against 18th-ranked Birmingham-Southern Saturday afternoon, falling by scores of 5-1 and 8-0.

It was the Southern Athletic Association opener for both teams, as the Colonels fell to 0-7 (0-2 SAA) while the Panthers improved to 14-2 (2-0).

GAME ONE: Birmingham-Southern 5, Centre 1
- Centre's Alana Fullen and Sarah Fly each came up with base hits in the bottom of the first, two runners were left on base at the end of the inning to end the early threat.
- The Panthers got to starter Lucy Baseheart in the second inning, after the rookie had retired the opening two batters. Three hits and a walk led to three runs for the visitors.
- Baseheart settled in and allowed just two runs and a pair of hits through the next four frames.
- Centre got on the board in the bottom of the seventh off a RBI from Brylin Isaacs that brought in Haley Simon, but it was the only run the Colonels managed.

GAME TWO: Birmingham-Southern 8, Centre 0 (5 inn.)
- The Colonels were again haunted by stranded baserunners in the second game, totaling six as the Panthers were able to record a shutout.
- Andrea Searcy pitched four innings, allowing three runs while striking out three.
- BSC had a big fifth inning, plating five runs on six hits to widen the margin.
- Isaacs had two of Centre's three hits in the loss.
