DANVILLE, Ky. – Gary Wright Field played host to the first of three games this weekend between Centre baseball and the Rhodes Lynx after rain wiped out the first game of today's scheduled doubleheader. The Colonels had several chances to get over the hump against the Lynx, but could not string together the rally and fell by a score of 3-2.
GAME HIGHLIGHTS
- Rhodes got on the board in the second inning when an error led to a two-out rally for the Lynx, who scored a pair of unearned runs against starter
Jess Miller.
- The Lynx increased their lead to 3-0 in the fifth following a solo home run, the only earned run given up by Miller on the day.
- Centre left runners in scoring position with no runs scored in each of the next two innings, but finally broke through in the seventh. Singles by
Will Ahrens and
Jordan Gunter and a walk by
Patrick Hope loaded the bases again and this time Centre cashed in as
Chris Esselman worked a walk to produce the first run of the game for the Colonels.
- In the ninth, Gunter led off with a double and Hope was hit by a pitch. Following a walk to Esselman to load the bases,
Joshua Cunningham walked to cut the lead to 3-2, but that was as close as Centre got, as the Colonels could not get the tying run across.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Playing for the first time since Mar. 21, Gunter had an excellent day at the plate, going 4-5 with three doubles.
- Miller threw another complete game for the Colonels in the loss, scattering ten hits while only giving up the one unearned run on the solo homer in the fifth.
- Centre stranded 13 baserunners in the game and left runners in scoring position in six of the nine innings.
