DANVILLE, Ky. – The Centre baseball team celebrated Senior Day at Gary Wright Field and wrapped up the home portion of its schedule with a doubleheader against the Rhodes Lynx. The Colonels won the first game 11-4 before losing 5-3 in the second game.
GAME 1 HIGHLIGHTS
- The Lynx got off to a hot start their first time at the plate as they scored three runs on three hits, a balk, and an error.

Will Ahrens kept the damage to a minimum in the second inning by sniping a pair of Rhodes runners on attempted steals.
- In Centre's half of the second, the Colonels got on the board for the first time.
Austin Sharkey and
J. Ross singled, and Sharkey eventually scored on a Rhodes error.
- A single by
Jamie Laframboise and a walk by
Jordan Gunter loaded the bases and the Colonels plated their second run of the inning as
Patrick Hope was awarded first following a catcher's interference call.
- With the bases still loaded, starting pitcher
Jake Holloway ripped a base hit to left field to score a pair of runs and Centre on top. Two more runs followed after a
Chris Esselman double to the gap.
- Batting for the second time, Sharkey singled up the middle to score the seventh and final run for the Colonels in the inning.
- In the third, Laframboise led off with a triple and Gunter's RBI groundout gave Centre an 8-3 lead.
- Holloway faced one more jam in the fifth after walking consecutive hitters, but induced a 5-4-3 double play to get out of trouble and preserve the lead.
- The Colonels took advantage of small ball and Rhodes errors to score a run in each of the next four innings as Gunter and Sharkey each drove in their second runs of the game to cap off the 11-4 victory.
GAME 2 HIGHLIGHTS
- Rhodes once again scored the first run of the contest after a sacrifice fly. The Colonels bounded back in the second inning as Esselman singled, stole second and scored after a shot up the middle from Ross.
- The score did not stay tied long as Rhodes rallied with two outs in the third, loading the bases and scoring a pair of runs to go up 3-1.
- Rhodes added to the lead in the seventh with two more runs, but the Colonels got them back in the bottom half of the inning as pinch runner
Teddy Holloway scored on an error and
Jake Holloway's sacrifice fly allowed Gunter to score to cut it to 5-3.
- In the ninth, Gunter's single brought the tying run to the plate, but a 4-6-3 double play ended the rally and the game.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORES
- Centre's bottom of the second inning saw 13 plate appearances for the Colonels, where they scored seven runs on six hits and two errors. Six of the seven runs in the inning were scored with two outs.
- After a rocky opening frame,
Jake Holloway settled down and only allowed one hit across the next four innings to pick up the win.
- Centre also stole three bases, with Holloway picking off two. They held the Lynx without a steal thanks to the efforts of Ahrens in the top of the second.
