Nationally-ranked Vikings edge out Colonels in Saturday DH

MOUNT BERRY, Ga. – Centre softball fell by scores of 5-3 and 4-2 Saturday in a Southern Athletic Association doubleheader at No. 15 Berry.

The Colonels fall to 3-19 overall and 3-11 in SAA play, while the Vikings improve to 21-6 and 10-4 in-conference.

GAME ONE: Berry 5, Centre 3
- Centre scored first in Saturday's opener, plating a pair of runs in the second inning. Sarah Fly and Kaylee Gregory began the frame with consecutive base hits, and eventually came in to score on RBIs from Maddison Ellis and Brylin Isaacs.
- The host Vikings got those two back in the bottom of the frame, including an unearned run, and took their first lead with another run in the third.
- Riley McCue led off the fourth with a double to right center, and later scored on a sacrifice fly from Isaacs.
- Berry added runs in both the fourth and fifth, however, and held on for the victory by limiting the Colonels' bats during the final three frames.
- Ellis, Gregory and Fly had two hits apiece.
- Amanda Morgan tossed 3.2 innings in the start, while Gregory pitched 2.1 in relief.

GAME TWO: Berry 4, Centre 2
- Berry claimed another close game in Saturday's finale. Bayleigh Masterson helped put the home side on top with RBI hits in the first and third innings.
- The Colonels were kept off the board until the fourth, when McCue and Loran Trent provided RBIs that brought home Gregory and Abby Duncan.
- Centre managed only two hits outside of the fourth inning, however, as Berry starter Madison Hollis tossed a complete game.
