Colonels sweep Tigers in non-conference twin bill

SEWANEE, Tenn. – Centre baseball claimed a Friday doubleheader at Sewanee in non-conference action, winning by scores of 4-0 and 6-4 at Montgomery Field.

The Colonels improve to 13-10 overall and send the Tigers to 1-5.

GAME ONE: Centre 4, Sewanee 0
Centre chased Sewanee's starter in the second inning of the opener, plating four runs on three hits. Karson Thompson scored the game's first run on a wild pitch, and Jamie Laframboise and Joshua Cunningham each drove in runners with base knocks.

That proved to be all the Colonels needed offensively, as Jess Miller and Mason King shut down the Tigers' bats.

Miller tossed five scoreless innings for the Colonels in the start, scattering three hits while striking out five batters.

King came in and threw the final four frames, allowing only one hit while striking out two.

Together, the pair combined for Centre's first nine-inning shutout of the season and faced six above the minimum.

GAME TWO: Centre 6, Sewanee 4
The Colonels jumped on the Tigers early in game two, scoring twice in the first inning. Jake Holloway drove in Cunningham and later scored on an RBI single from J. Ross.

Sewanee capitalized on some early walks in the bottom of the frame, ultimately scoring four on just one hit to claim a 4-2 lead.

That score held until the sixth, when Holloway led off with a solo homerun. Later in the frame, Teddy Holloway singled to bring in Dillon Di Iorio and Chris Esselman and regain the lead for Centre.

Holloway tacked on another for Centre in the ninth, using a sacrifice fly to plate Laframboise.

Centre's relief pitching combined for seven scoreless innings, allowing only three hits while striking out seven. Holloway earned the win while Thompson picked up the save.
