Centre completes series sweep in 10-inning win at Sewanee

SEWANEE, Tenn. – Centre baseball closed its three-game set at Sewanee with a 4-2 win in extra innings Saturday at Montgomery Field.

The Colonels improve to 14-10 overall and send the Tigers to 1-6.

HIGHLIGHTS
Saturday's game began as a textbook pitchers' duel, with Centre's Hogan Brownley tossing four scoreless frames to start the contest. Sewanee's staff was just as stout, keeping the Colonels without a hit for five full innings.

Centre finally broke through in the sixth, as Joshua Cunningham led off with a walk and came in to score on an RBI single from Jake Holloway – the Colonels' first hit of the game.

After shutout innings from Brownley and Sam Edwards, Sewanee also got on the board in the sixth on a sacrifice ground out that leveled the score.

Both sides had runners in scoring position over the next few innings, but neither was able to break the tie. The Tigers came close in the eighth, but got caught trying to steal home as Teddy Holloway connected with pitcher David Sickles to get the would-be go-ahead runner.

The Colonels orchestrated a two-out rally in the 10th that proved to be the difference. Chris Esselman singled to bring in Jamie Laframboise, and Karson Thompson followed with a two-run single to left center that made it 4-2. Esselman and Pat Hope scored on the play.

Sewanee got one back in the bottom of the frame before Laframboise shut it down for the save.
