DANVILLE, Ky. – Senior
Haydon Korfhage turned in a handful of highlight-worthy saves in goal, but Centre fell 1-0 to visiting Covenant Friday at Andrew P. Amend Field as part of the 32nd Annual Bob Allen Nissan Classic.
The Colonels drop to 2-1-1 overall on the young season, while the Scots improve to 1-3-1.
HIGHLIGHTS
- Korfhage was called to action early, turning aside a dangerous free kick in just the second minute.
- He finished with four saves across a first half that was nearly 50-50 in terms of possession. Covenant out-shot Centre 8-4, but Korfhage and veteran center backs
Michael Vogt and
Max Gordinier anchored the defense to keep it scoreless at the intermission.
- The shutout quickly ended, however, as Covenant's Parker Owen scored just 16 seconds into the second period.
- Korfhage stood tall a number of times down the stretch, winning one-on-one battles time and again to keep the Colonels within one goal.
- Centre finished with seven shots throughout the remainder of the half, but only two were on target.
