NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – Centre women's soccer lost a heartbreaking match in overtime Saturday at Christopher Newport, dropping a 2-1 decision in a battle of top-20 teams.
The No. 19 Colonels (3-1-1) scored first, but the No. 16 Captains (2-0) equalized in the second half before ending the match in the initial extra session.
HIGHLIGHTS
- The two sides played the first 45 minutes without a score. Christopher Newport out-shot Centre, but
Jonelle Barron recorded four saves to lead the Colonel defense.

Megan Sidaway broke the scoreless draw early in the second half, heading home a pass from
Elizabeth Nelson off a free kick. It marked her second goal of the season.
- The Captains' Molly Beegle leveled the match in the 63rd minute, and the score held through the final whistle of regulation.
- Less than five minutes into overtime, CNU got the golden goal from Riley Cook, who finished with the right foot after dribbling past a Centre defender.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- The hosts finished with 14 shots to Centre's seven, holding a 7-3 advantage in shots on goal. CNU also had a 5-2 edge in corner opportunities.
