SEWANEE, Tenn. – Centre volleyball had much to celebrate Saturday, earning a pair of wins against Sewanee (3-2) and Covenant (3-0) inside Juhan Gymnasium.
The Colonels improve to 6-1 with the two victories and are 1-0 in Southern Athletic Association action following their first win over Sewanee since 2017.
GAME 1 HIGHLIGHTS
- Centre defeated Sewanee 24-26, 25-18, 25-17, 24-26, 15-7 in Saturday's opener.
- The two sides see-sawed back and forth across a tight opening set, but the hosts claimed the final two points to take an early advantage, 26-24. The Colonels rallied to take set two, hitting .429 as a team while overcoming a 15-11 deficit midway through.
- Centre took control of set three early, leading by as many as eight points to swing the match and put Sewanee on the brink of defeat.
- The Tigers responded in the fourth. The Colonels led 17-10 and seemed poised to close the match out, but Sewanee finished on a 16-7 run to force the decisive fifth set.
- The Colonels left little doubt in the fifth, hitting .500 overall while getting multiple kills from
Katie Hall and
Brooke Palmer to put Sewanee away.
- Hall led the team with 16 kills on a sharp .324 attack percentage, adding three block assists. Palmer followed with 10 kills, turning in a double-double with 13 digs, and
Isabel Thornton had a season-high nine kills.

Madi Barron paced the Colonels with 18 digs, followed by
Lily Hendricks's 13.

Meredith Phillips neared a season high with 44 assists.
GAME 2 HIGHLIGHTS
- Centre defeated Covenant 25-23, 25-21, 25-14 to complete the Saturday sweep.
- The Colonels got another double-double from Palmer, who had a team high 11 kills to go with 11 digs.

Eleanor Davis followed with eight kills, adding a pair of block assists, and Thornton provided seven kills.
- Barron racked up 20 digs, marking the third 20-plus effort of the season and first in a three-set match.
- Centre totaled a season-high 14 services aces – the most by the program since Sept. 14, 2019.
June Padilla had three while Barron and Palmer finished with three apiece.
