GRANVILLE, Ohio – Centre field hockey faced its first deficit of the season Sunday, but managed to rally from behind for a 3-2 win against Denison at Deeds Fields-Piper Stadium.
The 17th-ranked Colonels finish the weekend 4-0 overall, dropping the Big Red to 1-3.
HIGHLIGHTS
- Centre's efficiency on penalty corners was evident early in the opening quarter, as
Megan Coomes inserted to
Maran Lee who scored her team-leading third goal of the season in just the fourth minute.
- Denison scored twice in a 50-second span later in the quarter, however, taking a 2-1 lead.
- The Colonels stepped up their attacking effort in the second quarter, out-shooting the Big Red 7-1 and eventually tying the game on an
Olivia Broyles goal. It was her second score of the weekend and came off an assist from
Ellie Dunham.
- Just a minute into the third quarter, Coomes gathered a loose ball and scored to regain a 3-2 advantage for the Colonels.
- Centre's defense allowed only two shots the rest of the contest.
Sienna Joseph came up with a save in the closing minutes to preserve the lead.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Centre out-shot Denison 17-5 with an 8-4 edge in shots on goal. Each team had six penalty corner opportunities.
- Joseph finished with two saves for the Colonels.
