Wickenheiser records hat trick as Colonels cruise past Transy

DANVILLE, Ky. – The Centre field hockey team stayed perfect on the year for 2021 as they rolled past the Transylvania Pioneers 7-0 in a midweek clash at South Campus Field to improve to 5-0 for the season.
 
GAME HIGHLIGHTS
 
- Four minutes into the contest, the Colonels were the first to strike as Megan Coomes got the first goal on the board for Centre.
- In the final four minutes of the first quarter, the Colonels blitzed the Pioneers for three goals. It started when Gabby Floro found Meredith Wickenheiser, who fired one into the net to put Centre up 2-0. After Ellie Dunham scored a little over a minute later, Wickenheiser beat the first period buzzer with her second goal of the game to give the Colonels a 4-0 edge.
- The Colonels struck quickly in the second period as Olivia Broyles put one on the board for Centre, her third goal in the last three games.
- In the fourth quarter, Wickenheiser capped off the hat trick with a goal and Maran Lee scored in the final minute to cap off the 7-0 victory.
 
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
 
- Wickenheiser's hat trick represented the senior's first career three-goal game.
- Centre outshot the Pioneers 24-2, including a 16-1 edge in shots on goal. Transy's one shot on goal was turned away by rookie Carlie McKenry for her first career save.
- The Colonels also held an 8-1 edge over Transylvania in corners for the game.
