Centre volleyball knocks off Spalding in four sets

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The Centre volleyball team bounced back from Sunday's loss as they hit the road once again to face the Spalding Golden Eagles. The Colonels defeated the Golden Eagles in four sets thanks to a strong defense and the typical balanced scoring effort.

GAME HIGHLIGHTS

- The Colonels grabbed an early 9-3 lead in the opening set and never looked back, holding the Golden Eagles at bay the rest of the way as Spalding could get no closer than four points for the remainder of the set. Katie Hall and Alice Rodgerson put home back to back kills to secure a 25-18 win for Centre.
- The second set was much more tightly contested throughout as both teams exchanged the lead early and often. With the score tied at 18-18, Spalding scored seven of the next ten points to take the 25-21 win.
- With momentum on the line, Centre used a 6-1 run to take the lead for good in the third set and held off a hard charging Spalding rally to go up 2-1 overall with a 25-23 victory.
- Centre played from behind for most of the fourth set, but a 6-0 run put the Colonels up 19-15. Spalding cut the lead to one at 23-22, but a kill from Brooke Palmer and a tandem block from Eleanor Davis and Isabel Thornton wrapped up the 25-22 victory and the match for the Colonels.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE

- Rodgerson led the Colonels with a dozen kills, followed by Palmer with ten, but five Centre players finished with at least seven kills.
- Meredith Phillips posted a team high 32 assists.
- Reigning SAA Defensive Player of the Week Madi Barron led all players with a career high 33 digs. June Padilla (24) and Isabel Thornton (17) also finished with career highs in digs, while Lily Hendricks added 18.
- The Colonels earned their ninth victory of the year before the halfway point of the season, already the most wins in a season for a Centre volleyball team since 2017.
