DANVILLE, Ky. - The Centre volleyball team opened a home conference weekend against the third ranked team to appear on their schedule, the no. 13 Berry Vikings. The Colonels played the Vikings tough, but fell to their ranked foes in straight sets.
GAME HIGHLIGHTS
- The opening set was closely contested throughout, with neither team able to hold a significant lead. The Vikings held the lead at 19-16 before Centre rallied with three straight to prompt a Berry timeout, which swung the momentum back into the favor of Berry, who scored six of the last seven to win 25-20.
- In the second set, it was the Vikings who jumped out to the early lead, scoring the first four points and leading by as many as 12 points. The Colonels were impressive in fending off set point, scoring five straight after the Vikings got their 24th point, but the lead was too much to overcome as Berry won 25-17.
- Centre held the lead for the early stages of the third set before Berry battled back to tie at the halfway point. The two teams played it close before a late Vikings rally propelled Berry to a 25-20 win to take the match.
