LYNCHBURG, Va. – The No. 18 Centre field hockey squad fell by a 2-1 score in overtime against No. 19 Lynchburg Saturday, playing at the Liberty University Field Hockey Complex.
Centre moves to 6-1 with its first defeat of 2021, while the Hornets improve to 3-3.
HIGHLIGHTS
- Centre kept pressure on Lynchburg throughout the opening quarter, but neither side found the back of the net. The Colonels' best shot came off the stick of
Meredith Wickenheiser near the end of the period.
- The Colonels held the Hornets without a shot in the second quarter, but it remained 0-0 into the halftime break.
- Lynchburg broke the scoreless draw in the third quarter, as Aaryn Boatwright found the back of the cage after a penalty corner.

Ellie Dunham leveled the score in the fourth quarter with her third goal of the season, making it 1-1, and the score held through the end of regulation.
- The Hornets controlled possession during the extra session, resulting in six shots and five penalty opportunities. Brittany Claybaugh eventually capitalized on one, scoring the golden goal in the 67th minute.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Lynchburg held a 12-4 advantage in total shots, including a 7-2 edge in shots on target. Eleven of those 12 shots came in the second half and overtime.
- All nine of the Hornets' penalty corners came during the second half and overtime, while Centre's three all came during the first half.
- Dunham led Centre with two shots.
