DANVILLE, Ky. – Centre remained unbeaten following a 14-7 victory over Trine Saturday evening, competing under the lights at Farris Stadium as part of the College's Family Weekend.
The Colonels improved to 3-0 behind a stout defensive effort, dropping the visiting Thunder to 2-2 in the teams' first ever meeting.
HIGHLIGHTS
- The two sides traded punts throughout the opening quarter, and each team also came up empty on a pair of field goal tries.
- Centre's had a second field goal attempt blocked in the second quarter, but the Colonel defense and special teams helped keep the home side ahead in the battle for field position.
- Defensively, Centre held Trine to under 100 yards of total offense in the first half, and the two teams went into the break in a scoreless tie.
- The Colonels finally broke through on a 12-play, 75-yard drive in the third quarter, capped by a
Trentin Dupper touchdown pass to
Jordan Gunter.
- Later in the quarter, Dupper finished a six-play, 76-yard drive with a touchdown run of five yards. The possession was kept alive on a 20-yard pitch-and-catch from Dupper to
Patric Edwards on an early 3rd & 9, and extended on a 45-yard connection between Dupper and Gunter.
- Centre's defense held Trine without a point until midway through the fourth quarter, when the visitors pulled within 14-7 following a 13-play, 80-yard scoring drive.
- The Thunder had two possessions late in the game, but Centre's defense stood tall on each one to prevent a comeback.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Centre's defense held Trine to 95 yards on 31 attempts, also limiting the Thunder to 16 of 46 passing for 149 yards. All told, Trine's offense managed 244 yards on 77 plays (3.2 ypp), crossed midfield on three drives and had just one redzone opportunity.

Armon Wells led Centre with 11 tackles (8 solo) and 3.5 tackles for loss.
Cole Arendsen had six tackles, while
Miles Smith and
Nick German followed with five each. Arendsen and Smith also had a sack each.
- Dupper completed 15 of 28 pass for 192 yards and a score, adding 117 yards and a touchdown on the ground.
