DEMOREST, Ga. – The 15th-ranked Centre women's soccer team defeated Piedmont by a 1-0 score Sunday at the Walker Athletic Complex, marking their fifth consecutive victory.
The Colonels improve to 8-1-1 overall while sending the Lions to 4-2-3. Centre is now 4-0-1 all-time against Piedmont.
HIGHLIGHTS
- As she did in Saturday's victory at Oglethorpe,
Mills Mullen scored the opening goal of the match. She converted
Alex Barnhill's cross from the right side to the back post for her second goal of the season.
- Centre would take 14 total shots during the first half to Piedmont's one, but the score remained 1-0 after 45 minutes.
- The Colonels peppers Piedmont's keeper, Haylee Dornan, early in the second period.
Megan Sidaway and
Elizabeth Nelson each puts shots on target in the opening six minutes.
- Piedmont's lone shot on goal came in the 66th minute, but
Jonelle Barron came up with a save.
- The Lions got off one final shot in the closing seconds, but it was sent wide as Centre secured the victory.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Centre outmatched Piedmont for much of the contest, finishing with a 25-5 advantage in total shots. Mullen and Sidaway each had five attempts to lead the Colonels.
- The Colonels had six corner kick opportunities to Piedmont's three.
- Barron played all 90 minutes in goal for Centre.
