Colonels knock off Grizzlies in four sets

FRANKLIN, Ind. - The Centre volleyball team hit the road for a midweek matchup against the Franklin Grizzlies. Behind a balanced defensive effort, the Colonels took out Franklin in four sets.

GAME HIGHLIGHTS

- The opening set belonged to the Colonels. Centre scored eight of the first nine points and never looked back as they coasted to a 25-15 victory. Katie Hall and Josie Grace-Mudd put home consecutive kills to seal the deal for the Colonels.
- In the second set, both teams played it close, with neither team leading by more that four points at any juncture. With the score tied at 22-22, Franklin rallied to score three straight and even the match with a 25-22 win.
- The third set played out in a similar fashion to the first, with Centre grabbing an early lead and keeping it. This time the Colonels jumped out to a 15-7 edge and led by as many as 12 points before Alice Rodgerson scored the finishing kill on a 25-16 win.
- The Grizzlies played much better in the fourth set and looked to extend the match as they led 22-21, but an ace by Emily Goddin swung the momentum in the direction of the Colonels, who took advantage of Franklin miscues down the stretch to take the match with a 25-23 win.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE

- Eleanor Davis finished with a career high 15 kills to lead all players, with Hall adding ten for the Colonels.
- Meredith Phillips had a game high 42 assists, finishing with 12 more than Franklin had as a team.
- The Colonels had one of their best offensive performances of the season in the third set, as they hit a collective .302. Davis led all players with a .367 hitting percentage for the game.
- Centre held an 84-75 advantage over Franklin in digs. Madi Barron led the way with a game high 19, followed by Brooke Palmer with 16 and Lily Hendricks with 15.
- Centre also finished with nine aces on the day, led by Goddin with three.

NEXT UP

The road trip for Centre volleyball will continue into the weekend as the Colonels will face a tough Birmingham-Southern squad on Saturday.
