Centre volleyball completes perfect tournament with doubleheader sweep

ST. LOUIS – The Centre volleyball team completed a flawless tournament at Washington University with the second doubleheader sweep in as many days. The Colonels came back to defeat Carroll (Wisc.) in five sets before defeating Webster in straight sets

GAME 1 HIGHLIGHTS

- The Colonels and Pioneers played a back and forth opening set, but in the end it was Centre who made the plays in the clutch and came away with the 25-23 win.
- Carroll asserted themselves in the next two sets, winning by scores of 25-13 and 25-23 to put the Colonels on the brink of their first loss of the year.
- Centre demonstrated great resolve in the fourth set, winning by a score of 25-19 and then carried that momentum into the fifth set, where they held the Pioneers to just three kills in a 15-10 win.

GAME 2 HIGHLIGHTS

- Fatigue did not play a factor in Centre's play in game 2 despite the quick turnaround, as the Colonels scored the first six points against Webster and never looked back on the way to a 25-9 win.
- A hot start was once again the key to victory for Centre in the second set. The Colonels jumped out to an early 14-4 lead and never allowed the Gorloks to get close, winning by a score of 25-11.
- Webster played better with their backs to the wall in the third set and led at the halfway point, but Centre chipped away and used a run of five straight points to break the set open. A block by Katie Hall provided the final point on a 25-21 Centre victory.
