Smithson scores twice as Colonels blank Eagles

DANVILLE, Ky. – Centre women's soccer took care of business Wednesday evening against Asbury, winning by a 4-0 margin at Andrew P. Amend Field.

The Colonels (3-0-1) got a pair of goals from senior Brooke Smithson, who bookended the scoring against the Eagles (1-2).

HIGHLIGHTS
- Smithson wasted little time putting Centre on the board, rifling home her first goal of the season in the third minute.
- Taylor Gebhart doubled the score in the 13th minute, taking advantage of a miscue from an Asbury defender to finish off a pass from Liz Hundley.
- Smithson added to her tally later in the half after dribbling into the box and beating the keeper. It marked her second career multi-goal effort.
- Centre had plenty of opportunities as it continued controlling possession into the second half. Eventually, those chances paid off as Elizabeth Nelson sent a rocket off her left foot and above the keeper for Centre's fourth goal.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- The Colonels held roughly 70 percent of the possession, resulting in a massive 23-2 advantage in total shots. Smithson led Centre with seven attempts.
- Jonelle Barron played most of the match in goal for Centre, with Grace Dutcher providing reserve minutes.

UP NEXT
- The Colonels head to Newport News, Va., for the Captains Invite at Christopher Newport this weekend. Centre takes on the 16th-ranked hosts Saturday at 11 a.m. before meeting Virginia Wesleyan Sunday at 1 p.m.
