Game Recap: Women's Soccer | | Jake Renie, Assistant Athletic Director for Communications

Colonels’ second-half hopes diminished by Berry

ROME, Ga. – The Centre women's soccer team (9-2, 1-1 SAA) traveled south on Friday night to take on the Berry Vikings (6-3, 2-0 SAA) for an in-conference matchup. The Vikings bested the Colonels by taking a commanding two-goal lead, the Gold and White's push to the finish not enough to surpass the 2-1 loss.

GAME HIGHLIGHTS
- Centre was able to apply pressure first in the contest, Alexis Kronenthal and Bella Nelson both laying shots at the goal within the game's first 16 minutes of action. Both attempts resulted in saves by Berry.
- After a standstill at halftime, the Vikings would provide the game's first score at the 67th minute mark, claiming the late lead.
- It wouldn't take long for Berry to extend their lead to two goals, putting Centre on their heels with less than 20 minutes left of play.
- The Colonels would make the Vikings sweat in the 78th minute, large in part to Maggie Corbett's goal that came from a beautiful pass by Cara Francke.
- The Gold and White would get a corner kick with just over three minutes of play left, but the final buzzer would put this game in the loss column for the Colonels.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- The Vikings two goals is only the second time this season an opponent has scored more than one goal on Centre in a single game.
- The Gold and White's 12 corner kicks marks the third-consecutive contest where Centre has had double-digit kicks from the corner in a game.
- Corbett's goal from Friday night is her sixth of the season, tying with Mills Mullen for the team high.
- The Vikings handed Centre their first regular-season SAA loss since Oct. 19, 2014 - a span of 2093 days. It's also just the Colonels' fifth defeat in the 11-year history of the conference.

UP NEXT
The Gold and White will look to continue the season next week, traveling out to Memphis, Tenn. for a contest against Rhodes before moving out to Hendrix. That Friday, Oct. 7 match against the Lynx is scheduled to kick off at 6 p.m. ET.
