Women’s soccer opens Homecoming with two-goal victory

DANVILLE, Ky. – The Centre women's soccer team (12-2, 4-1 SAA) opened up the 2022 Centre College Homecoming schedule with the first contest of the weekend, facing off against the Millsaps Majors (2-7-2, 0-4-1 SAA) on Friday night. The Colonels achieved their second-straight shutout performance, earning the victory on a 2-0 final score.

GAME HIGHLIGHTS
- The Colonels laid nine shots in the first half of action, including the first shot-on-goal of the game coming from Megan Sidaway in the fifth minute. Sidaway's shot would be saved by the Majors' goalie at the bottom-center part of the net.
- Erin Reynolds would try and push the Gold and White to a lead before halftime, her shot in the 41st minute on-par for a goal but saved by the keeper.
- Centre would jump ahead at the start of the second half of action, Bella Nelson finding an excellent shot from Alexis Kronenthal that reached the back of the net.
- Kronenthal would later find an opportunity to extend the Colonels' lead with 10 minutes left in the game, nailing a penalty kick shot past Millsaps' goalie for the final score of the game.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Nelson's game-winning score marks the second of the sort in her collegiate career, also being noted as her second-consecutive game with a goal.
- The defense proved to be a strong point yet again for Centre, holding off the Majors to zero shots in the 90-minute game. The statistic marks their first game this season not allowing a shot.
- The Colonels' 12 corner kicks tallies the sixth time this season they've concluded a single game with double-digits in the statistical category.
- Centre's current 6-0 record on Amend Field remains as the only program with an undefeated record on their home turf.

UP NEXT
The Colonels will celebrate their highly decorated senior class and more on Sunday, Oct. 16, where they'll host Birmingham-Southern for the final home contest of the season. That game will kick off at 12 p.m. ET on Amend Field.
