DANVILLE, Ky. – The Centre volleyball team honored its senior co-captains on Saturday with a victory over the Millsaps Majors in straight sets, earning the regular season sweep. The win improved the Colonels to 16-5 on the season and 7-3 in conference play.
GAME HIGHLIGHTS
- In the opening set, the Colonels held a small lead for the duration, keeping the Majors at bay, but never by more than four points. Millsaps stayed within striking distance and eventually took the lead at 23-22 following a 5-0 run. The Colonels would rally to regain the lead and force a set point, and although it took extra points,
Isabel Thornton and
Emily Goddin delivered consecutive kills to cap off a hard-fought 26-24 win for the Colonels.
- The second set was considerably easier on the nerves as the Colonels jumped out to an 11-3 lead and never looked back, leading by as many as 13 points at 23-10 before holding on for a 25-17 victory as Goddin once again put home the final kill.
- The third set was the closest of the match as the Majors controlled the action for the early part. The Colonels battled back with a 10-2 run to take the lead for the first time and then scored six of the final eight points to win 25-22. Fittingly it was a senior,
Josie Grace-Mudd, who delivered the last kill of the game to secure the win for Centre.
