Men’s soccer celebrates seniors in second-straight victory

DANVILLE, Ky. – After a record-setting performance in the 11-0 victory against Millsaps on Friday, the Centre men's soccer team (2-10-2, 2-4 SAA) hosted the Birmingham-Southern Panthers (5-5-2, 1-4-1 SAA) on Sunday for a senior day matchup. The Colonels were able to slam a late goal in the contest, earning their second-consecutive win to cap off homecoming weekend on a 2-1 final score. Centre celebrated five seniors in the contest, consisting of Everett Hauser, Max Gordinier, Jack Rodes, Conner Henry and fifth-year Ethan Noel.

GAME HIGHLIGHTS
- The Gold and White were able to churn their offense early, Sota Ippongi claiming Centre's first shot of the game that would eventually be saved by the Panthers' keeper.
- Birmingham-Southern was able to respond with a shot that reached the back of the net, putting the Colonels behind in the 14th minute of the game.
- Hauser was able to set the game's equalizer soon after, nailing an excellent pass to Ippongi for a shot in the 23rd minute that soared past the goalie.
- The game-winning shot came within the contest's 81st minute, Taylor Nelson heaving a throw-in that sailed across the box, finding the head of 6'1" Finnegan Deem-Ranzetta to put the Gold and White in the drivers' seat for the rest of the game.
- The Panthers would come close to tying the game again as regulation was winding down, but Aidan Hartman extended on a dive to the right side to tip a BSC shot just enough to prevent the ball from reaching the back of the net.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Nelson's game-winning assist is not only the first of his career in that statistical category, it also marked the sophomore defender's first assist of his young career.
- The gameplan for the Colonels' offense has now worked for the last two contests, totaling double-digit shots on goal in each of the last two games.
- Freshman Aidan Hartman's five saves in the Sunday contest marks a career-high for him in a single game, facing 16 shots overall.
- The Gold and White were able to unload several chances off long balls in the box, their five corner kicks records their fourth game this season that they've finished a game with five or more in the statistical category.
