JACKSON, Miss. – The Centre volleyball team improved to 14-4 in 2022 as they shook off yesterday's loss at Birmingham-Southern and defeated the Millsaps Majors in four sets.
GAME HIGHLIGHTS
- The opening set of the match belonged to Millsaps, as the Majors grabbed the early lead and held the Colonels at bay at every challenge, gradually extending their lead until they won by a score of 25-19.
- Centre stormed out of the gates in the second set, taking a 7-1 lead following consecutive aces by
Isabel Thornton. The Colonels never looked back from their hot start as Millsaps could get no closer than three points the rest of the way.
Josie Grace-Mudd put home the final kill on a 25-19 winner to tie the match at 1-1.
- In the third set, the Colonels used an early 10-2 run to overcome an early deficit and force Millsaps to exhaust both timeouts. Centre held onto the lead for the remainder of the set as
Madi Barron delivered consecutive aces to seal the deal on a 25-17 win that put the Colonels on top for the first time in the match.
- The fourth set played out in a similar manner to the second as the Colonels jumped out to an early 8-2 lead and kept the lead for the duration. Fittingly, it was an ace that scored the final point as Barron finished off a set for the second time on the day and Centre won by a score of 25-18.
