SEWANEE, Tenn. – Centre volleyball wrapped up the 2022 regular season in a big way as the Colonels earned a season sweep over the Sewanee Tigers on Thursday night with a 3-1 victory.
GAME HIGHLIGHTS
- The opening set was a set full of runs. The Colonels scored the first four points, but the Tigers scored the next four and eventually took their biggest lead at 14-10. Centre fired right back with six straight points of their own to retake the lead. From there, the rest of the set saw four ties as it went back and forth before the Colonels scored four of the final five points to win 25-21.
Emily Sullivan had the final three kills of the set for the Colonels.
- The Tigers controlled the second set as they used a pair of 6-1 runs midway through to take the lead and never look back, winning by a score of 25-18.
- In the third set, the Colonels utilized an early 4-0 run to break open a close game and a late 4-0 rally to create distance, winning 25-18 to take a 2-1 lead.

Isabel Thornton delivered consecutive kills to wrap up the set.
- The fourth set played out in almost an identical fashion to the third. Centre scored four straight points early on to break open what had been a closely contested set, and then gradually extended their lead in the late stages to win 25-18. Just like in the third set, the Colonels led 22-18 and scored the final three points to win, this time on a Sullivan kill, an ace by
June Padilla and finally the clinching kill from
Emily Goddin.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- The Colonels enjoyed several huge statistical advantages in tonight's game, including a 59-35 edge in kills. Knueven led all players with 15, while Thornton added a dozen while hitting .241 for the night.
- Centre had a 56-40 assist edge over Sewanee tonight, led by
Meredith Phillips with a game high 26 and
Emily Gardner with 14.
- The biggest statistical edge the Colonels had in tonight's game was in digs, where Centre had 96 compared to 61 for Sewanee.
Madi Barron finished with a game high 23, followed by Padilla with 20,
Lily Hendricks with 14 and Thornton with 12.
- Centre's 18 regular season wins are the most by the program in a season since the 2013 Colonels won 22 games.
NEXT UP
The Colonels will enter next week's Southern Athletic Association Tournament as the no. 3 seed. The bracket will be released this weekend.
