Centre field hockey gets the better of Mary Washington

FREDERICKSBURG, Va. – Centre field hockey went head-to-head with the Eagles of Mary Washington. After a back-and-forth competition, the Colonels edged out the Eagles with a final score of 3 – 2. 
 
GAME HIGHLIGHTS
- Mary Washington initiated the competition's scoring, placing the first goal seconds into the game.  
- The Colonels answered the Eagle's goal a minute later. The point was placed by Olivia Broyles off a penalty corner. 
- Coming out of halftime with an even score, Mary Washington took the lead, landing another goal four minutes in.
- Once again, Centre answered off a corner. Claire Martin planted a powerful shot in the back of the cage with the assist from Broyles. 
- The Colonels took the lead early in the fourth, laying down a goal from yet another corner. Ellie Dunham finalized the score at 3 – 2 with an assist from Jackie Rodriguez

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Placing all three goals from penalty plays, the Gold & White took advantage of their corner opportunities. The Colonels had 10 chances to the Eagle's five.
- Centre just edged out Mary Washington in shots, taking 11 to the opposing ten. 
- Leading the Colonels in shots was Claire Martin. The true freshmen took five shots, landing one in the second half. Olivia Broyles also marked a goal, placing the Colonel's first early in the opening period. Rounding out the scoring for Centre, Senior Ellie Dunham placed the game winning goal with an assist from Jackie Rodriguez
Kate Helton and Carlie McKenry shared time in goal. Facing a combined ten shots, the two keepers accumulated seven saves. 

NEXT UP
After a slew of away competitions, the Colonel's will return home to host SAA affiliate, Sewanee, on October 15th, at 12 p.m. ET.
