Colonels bounce back with 71-65 victory over Pacers

DANVILLE, Ky. – Centre men's basketball bounced back on Saturday as they defeated the William Peace Pacers by a score of 71-65 on Saturday night inside Alumni Gym.
 
GAME HIGHLIGHTS
 
- The Colonels got off to a hot start, taking a 12-5 lead following a three-pointer by Hunter Coleman and a backdoor layup from Cade Stinnett.
- WPU battled back to take their largest lead at 24-18 thanks to the hot shooting of Michael Dulin, who buried four threes in the early stages of the first half.
- Centre responded with a nice run of their own to take the lead, outscoring the Pacers 13-2 as Stinnett started to push the ball in transition and get easy scoring opportunities.
- The two teams went back and forth for the remainder of the half before Stinnett sank a runner at the halftime buzzer to give the Colonels a 36-34 lead at the break.
- Both teams went cold in the opening minutes of the second half as the Colonels and Pacers could just manage three baskets each in the first ten minutes.
- The Pacers were the first team to break through in the second half, utilizing a 14-3 run to take a 52-45 lead with eight minutes left. The Colonels showed their poise and responded with a 10-0 run of their own as Stinnett and Noah Ring each scored five points during the rally and Centre regained the lead.
- Centre began to fight off the Pacers in the closing minutes as Chez Moore and Coleman made tough baskets in traffic and the Colonels went up 63-57 with less than three minutes to go.
- William Peace cut the Centre lead to a single point at 63-62 before Ring made a huge three-pointer to put Centre on top for good. Moore, Stinnett and Coleman combined to go 5-6 at the free throw line in the last minute to salt away the win for the Colonels.
 
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
 
- After scoring 18 points in his collegiate debut, Stinnett followed that up with a team high 20 points against the Pacers.
- Moore and Ring were one rebound away from double-doubles, with Moore scoring 16 and Ring scoring 13.
- In his first game as a starter, Coleman scored 11 points and held Dulin scoreless after switching on him midway through the first half
- The Colonels shot 50 percent from the floor in the second half while holding WPU to 35 percent.

The Colonels will return to action on Wednesday as they face the Covenant Scots at home.
