FERRUM, Va. –Centre women's basketball opened their 2022-23 season on Saturday. Facing Ferrum College, they collected their first victory, annihilating the Panthers by a score of 74-47.
GAME HIGHLIGHTS
- In Centre's first game of the season, the Colonels were eager to strike first. A jumper from
Bailey Rucker followed by a three-pointer from
Piper Hensley gave Centre an early edge over Ferrum. The Panthers would respond with a pair of a lay-ups before the Colonels went on an 11-point scoring run.
- Just before the half, the Panthers chipped away at Centre's lead, going on a 7-0 run of their own. A late rebound turned fast-break from Rucker set the halftime score at 34-25 in favor of the Colonels.
- Starting the third quarter, a jumper from
Natalie Duggins would give Centre a ten-point lead. They would maintain a lead of no less than ten for the remainder of the contest.
- With six minutes remaining in regulation, Centre sunk seven consecutive baskets increasing the point differential to 27 points, their largest of the game.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Landing four of her five three's attempted,
Piper Hensley had a team high of 12 points in the opening game.
- While leading the team in assists with seven,
Payton Herold had a successful showing at the line, hitting five of her six free-throw opportunities.

Natalie Duggins and
Bailey Rucker led in rebounds, grabbing seven each for the Colonels. Duggins added also managed one block and a steal for the Colonels.
- Centre held a shot percentage of 54 percent while Ferrum was held to 31 percent.
