The Eagles slip pass the Colonels in final seconds

DANVILLE, Ky. – Centre women's basketball went up against the Eagles of Asbury University on Saturday. The Colonels fell short in the final stretch, losing 65-63. 
 
GAME HIGHLIGHTS
 
- The Eagles set the tempo in the opening minutes of play. Connecting two baskets before the Colonels would have a successful possession. Centre chipped away at Asbury's lead throughout the quarter, placing a series of connected free-throws to take a one-point lead entering the second quarter.
- Anna Thomas opened a scoring run, hitting two consecutive bombs that would give the offensive momentum to Centre entering the second half.
- Coming out of halftime, the Colonels possessed a seven-point edge over the Eagles. Asbury would even the score before Payton Herold found her own success behind the arc. The senior sank two straight threes to hand Centre the lead yet again. Following up Herold, Natalie Duggins and Emma Rose Vincent both nailed their penalty baskets to set the score at 53 - 48 entering the final quarter.  
- Centre's defense faltered as Asbury went on a 13-point scoring run, taking their first lead of the half. Bailey Rucker found herself at the penalty line to shrink the score gap to one-point, but Asbury's offensive would just edge the Colonels out. In the final seconds, Asbury forced a turn-over, pressuring Centre to foul. Taking advantage at the line, Asbury would net a final free-throw to set the final score at 65-63 in favor of the Eagles. 
  
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
 
- Natalie Duggins and Bailey Rucker led the Colonel's offensive, putting up 16-points each.
- Centre outrebounded the Eagles 49 – 30. 
- Centre outperformed Asbury at the arc, going 4 – 15 while Asbury went 6 – 23.
- Asbury shot 38 percent in the paint while the Colonels shot 33 percent.
