Colonels fall to Duhawks on night 1 of Rhodes Tournament

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The Centre men's basketball team traveled to Rhodes College for the first of a two-night tournament as they faced the Duhawks of Loras. The Duhawks caught fire from long distance in the final five minutes to overtake the Colonels and win by a score of 63-57.

GAME HIGHLIGHTS

- The first half belonged to the defenses as both teams shot poorly from the field. Carter Baughman made two early threes and Centre took the largest lead of the half at 14-8 on a driving bucket by Cade Stinnett.
- The Colonels never relinquished that initial lead for the rest of the half as a Stinnett free throw capped off the scoring and Centre took a 28-25 lead at the break.
- Centre cranked up the intensity on defense to start the second half as the Colonels held Loras scoreless for five minutes and extended the lead to 37-31 on a three-pointer by Hunter Coleman.
- The Colonels held the Duhawks at bay for the majority of the second half as Marshall Taylor came off the bench for four straight points and Centre grabbed a 48-43 lead with five minutes left.
- Over the next two minutes and change, Loras made four consecutive three-pointers in a 13-4 run that put them on top for good as they hit just enough from the free throw line to seal the victory.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE

- Centre held a 27-19 edge in bench points, led by Taylor's career high 16. Baughman and Stinnett also scored in double figures for the Colonels.
- Noah Ring came off the bench to stuff the stat sheet with nine points, ten rebounds, four blocks and two steals.
