Men's basketball drops SAA opener to Sewanee, 72-66

DANVILLE, Ky. – Centre men's basketball began Southern Athletic Association play by hosting the Sewanee Tigers. The Colonels fell behind by 13 early, cut it to one in the second half, but couldn't get over the hump, falling by a score of 72-66.

GAME HIGHLIGHTS

- The Tigers shot lights out to start the game, taking their biggest lead at 27-14 thanks to 16 quick points by SAA scoring leader Russ Marr.
- Centre slowly chipped away as Carter Baughman and Cade Stinnett buried consecutive threes to cut the deficit in half. From there, the two teams played evenly over the last five minutes as Sewanee led 34-27 at the half.
- The Colonels came out with more intensity in the second half, cutting the lead to two after Chez Moore stole the ball and found Stinnett streaking to the basket for a layup. A three from Drew Wilson made it 39-38 in favor of the Tigers.
- Sewanee weathered the storm and extended the lead back to ten points, where it remained until the 11-minute mark as Centre made another charge. Tyler Bush hit a three, and then grabbed an offensive rebound that led to an open jumper for Marshall Taylor and the lead was back down to four at 53-49.
- Trailing once again by ten at 63-53, Stinnett and Moore combined to score the next seven points to make it a one-score game once again, but the Tigers made enough plays down the stretch to preserve a six-point win.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE

- Stinnett led all players with 22 points to match his season high.
- Moore finished with his second double-double of the year, scoring a dozen points and pulling down 11 boards. The Colonels outrebounded the Tigers 40-35 for the game.
- Marr led Sewanee with 20 points, but the Colonels defended him well in the second half, holding him to four points after the break.
