MONTGOMERY, Ala. – Centre softball fell by scores of 6-1 and 2-0 Saturday at Huntingdon, beginning the season at Lucinda Samford Cannon Field.
The Colonels (0-2) totaled seven hits throughout the day against the Hawks (2-0), highlighted by a homerun from
Lydia Rice in the opener.
GAME ONE: Huntingdon 6, Centre 1
- The Hawks got on the board with runs in the first and second innings, though Centre starter
Lucy Baseheart stranded a pair of runners in each frame to limit the damage.
- Huntingdon broke the game open with a four-spot in the third.
- Centre struggled to piece together baserunners, as hits from
Kaylen Storms and
Brylin Isaacs went without support.
- In the top of the seventh, Rice came on to pinch-hit for
Andrea Searcy, and the sophomore sent a 2-2 pitch over the left field fence for her first career homer. It proved to be Centre's lone run in the loss.
GAME TWO: Huntingdon 2, Centre 0
- The two sides traded zeroes until the bottom of the third inning, when the Hawks pushed two unearned runs across.
- A second-inning double from
Abby Duncan was the only hit the Colonels managed against Huntingdon starter Crimson Wells, who faced one above the minimum.
- Centre's
Kaylee Gregory went 4.1 innings, allowing four hits while striking out two. Searcy went the last 1.2 and allowed just one baserunner.
