Bats come alive as Centre softball sweeps LaGrange

LAGRANGE, Ga. – Centre came away with wins of 12-4 and 10-5 Sunday at LaGrange, sweeping the Panthers at the LC Softball Complex.

The Colonels improve to 2-2 overall after its opening weekend, while the Panthers begin the season 0-2.

GAME ONE: Centre 12, LaGrange 4 (5 innings)
- LaGrange scored the first run of the game in the opening inning, but Centre answered in the top of the second with three on four hits. Abby Duncan and Kaylen Storms got on base with consecutive singles, and a third base hit from Sam Rogers plated Centre's first run. Andrea Searcy and Alana Fullen delivered RBIs to put the Colonels ahead, 3-1.
- Training 4-3 in the fourth, Centre plated four to regain a lead it wouldn't relinquish. Storms, Rogers and Searcy again provided back-to-back-to-back singles. Fullen then drove in two with a double to right center, and Sawyer Lecius capped the inning with an RBI single.
- Kaylee Gregory singled to begin a five-run fifth that put the game out of reach. Riley McCue doubled, and the pair scored on Duncan's base knock up the middle.
- Rogers and Searcy then smacked consecutive doubles to bring in two more, and Fullen recorded her fourth RBI of the afternoon on a single to push the lead to 12-4.
- LaGrange's Maggie White began the bottom of the fifth with a double, but eventually got caught stealing as Centre completed the run-rule victory.
- The Colonels totaled 15 hits in 28 at-bats, with Rogers and Searcy tallying three apiece and a eight individuals providing at least one. The Centre lineup struck out just two times, as well.
- Searcy pitched five innings for the Colonels, striking out three batters in the win.

GAME TWO: Centre 10, LaGrange 3
- The two sides went three full scoreless innings before the fourth, when Brylin Isaacs scored on a single from Duncan.
- Centre starter Lucy Baseheart stranded multiple LaGrange runners in three separate innings to keep the Colonels in front.
- McCue delivered a sacrifice fly in the fifth, and Kaylee Gregory later stole home in the same inning to give Centre a 3-0 lead.
- The home side took advantage of a couple Colonel errors to plate three unearned runs in the bottom of the fifth to tie the score.
- Centre went off for seven runs in the top of the seventh to put the game out of reach. McCue, Duncan, Storms and Lydia Rice each brought home runs after Centre loaded the bases, and Fullen scored two more with another double. Hailey Watson ended the inning with an RBI ground out.
