Centre softball drops Sunday home games

DANVILLE, Ky. – Centre softball fell by scores of 8-4 and 12-4 Sunday at home against Transylvania and Spalding
 
The Colonels fall to 4-4 overall with the losses, while the Pioneers head home 3-0 and the Golden Eagles finish the weekend 2-2.
 
GAME ONE: Transy 8, Centre 4
- The visitors scored a run without getting a hit in the top of the first, although Andrea Searcy avoided further damage with a strikeout to strand two runners.
- Centre was held scoreless until a four-run fourth inning. Sawyer Lecius began the frame with a double, later scoring on a double from Riley McCue. Abby Duncan drove in Kaylee Gregory with a single, and the Colonels added two more on Kaylen Storms' single that brought home McCue and Duncan.
- Transy quickly responded with three in the top of the fifth, highlighted by a two-run homerun from Taylor Senter that leveled the score.
- The Pioneers came through with four runs on five hits in the seventh, and the Colonels were unable to answer in the bottom of the inning.
- Andrea Searcy struck out five batters in the game, while Gregory fanned three.
 
GAME TWO: Spalding 12, Centre 4 (6 innings)
- Spalding plated three runs to begin Sunday's finale, though the Colonels would tie the game in the second inning. Alana Fullen and Sawyer Lecius each delivered RBI singles, and Searcy drove in another to make it 3-3 through two complete.
- The Golden Eagles put five on the board in the top of the fourth, including a three-run homer over the center field fence from Jessica Tucker.
- Fullen again helped Centre's cause with a double in the fifth that score Brylin Isaacs, who had reached on an infield single.
- The visiting side continued their efficient offense with four more in the sixth to end the game in a run rule.
- Centre totaled 12 hits in the loss, with McCue, Fullen and Gregory having multiple base knocks. But the Colonels also stranded 11 total runners.
 
UP NEXT
Centre is on the road next weekend, traveling to take on Hendrix in the first Southern Athletic Association series of the season.
