Centre softball drops series finale against Hendrix

DANVILLE, Ky. – Centre softball suffered a series sweep at the hands of Hendrix Sunday, falling 10-7 in the finale of their first Southern Athletic Association competition of the season.
 
The Colonels are 4-7 overall (0-3 SAA) after the weekend, while the visiting Warriors improve to 10-1 (3-0).
 
HIGHLIGHTS
- Centre totaled four hits in the top of the first inning, plating a run on Riley McCue's RBI single through the left side that brought home Andrea Searcy.
- Hendrix responded with a seven-run bottom of the frame, scoring six with two outs.
- Sawyer Lecius helped the Colonels get one back in the second, driving in Brylin Isaacs on a single to right.
- In the third, McCue and Sam Rogers delivered consecutive RBI doubles, and Isaacs closed the inning with a single that scored pinch-runner Sunnie Woske and brought the Colonels within 7-5.
- Trailing 8-5 in the sixth, Centre put two on the board to climb back within one. Kaylen Storms walked and eventually stole home after a display of aggressive base running. Later, Mia Tomillo came off the bench to record a pinch-hit RBI single, scoring Ellis.
- The Warriors got both runs back in the bottom of the inning, however, and held Centre scoreless in the seventh to complete the series sweep.
- Centre totaled 13 hits as a team, with Lecius, Duncan, McCue and Rogers totaling multiple base knocks. The Colonels also had seven different run scorers.
- Baseheart tossed five innings of relief pitching, scattering six hits while allowing only two earned runs.

Centre takes on in-state rival Transylvania this Tuesday, Mar. 1, for a doubleheader in Lexington beginning at 5 p.m.
