Treinen slams game-winning goal over Oberlin in overtime

DANVILLE, Ky. – Coming off of a tough string of games the last couple weeks, the Centre women's lacrosse team (2-4) hosted the Oberlin Yeos for a cold contest on Sunday. The back-and-forth match came down the very end and even needed extra time, the Colonels winning the sudden-death match against Oberlin for a final score of 18-17.

GAME HIGHLIGHTS
Haley Rice was able to get the Gold and White an early lead in the contest, knocking in the first goal of the game with eight and a half minutes remaining in the first period.
- Oberlin was able to make a quick run of their own in a span of 68 seconds, scoring three goals consecutively to take a two-goal lead.
- After going back-and-forth, the Centre was able to close the three-goal lead to one after senior McKenna Hulette put in back-to-back scores in the net.
- The next 15 or so minutes were as tight as can be, the first eight goals of the second half changed the lead or tied the game five times.
- In four minutes of action starting at 4:20 left on the clock in the fourth period, the Colonels outscored Oberlin 3-1 to take the lead with 43 seconds remaining. Hulette's game-leading goal was the first lead Centre had since the first score of the contest.
- The Yeos were able to sneak in a goal with only 15 seconds remaining in regulation, tying the game and forcing overtime.
- After limiting Oberlin's offense to an Addie Lewis caused turnover, the Gold and White were able to line up a free position attempt with one minute remaining of overtime.
- In a moment of redemption, sophomore Ella Treinen scored her second free position goal of the season to put another win on Centre's record for the season.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
Haley Rice's seven goals and eight points are both career-high for the freshman attacker, her previous high in a single game being three goals.
- After nailing her 100th career goal against Berry last game, Hulette's five scores marks the third time this season she's earned a nickel in the box score for the stat.
- Lewis' defense pressure led to a season-high in caused turnovers for the Lexington native, the freshman totaling five overall versus the Yeos.
- Not only collecting the most saves in a win this season (15), senior goalkeeper Lola Duff was a ball magnet on Sunday with her team-leading seven ground balls.
- The Colonels marked their best game in the circle, winning 20 draw controls versus Oberlin.

UP NEXT
The Gold and White will have a short celebration for their victory, next needing to prepare for the upcoming contest against North Central this week. That 6:30 p.m. contest will take place at home in Danville, Ky. on Wednesday, March 16.
