Mountaineers stifled Colonel bats in doubleheader sweep

DANVILLE, Ky. – Centre softball (4-17) was held in check against Berea (6-5) Wednesday afternoon, dropping two games by scores of 5-0 and 3-0 on their home field.

GAME ONE: Berea 5, Centre 0
- Centre's Lucy Baseheart got through Berea's order one time unscathed before the visitors pieced together a three-run, two-out rally in the third inning.
- Abby Duncan and Riley McCue delivered consecutive base hits in the bottom of the fourth, but both were stranded as Berea's Caroline Nelson escaped the inning without allowing a run.
- In the sixth, Sawyer Lecius and Kaylen Storms led off with back-to-back hits to put two runners on for the Colonels. Again, Nelson worked out of the jam to preserve the Mountaineers' lead.
- Berea tacked on two insurance runs in the seventh inning, though Baseheart left the bases loaded to keep the Colonels in striking distance.
- Brylin Isaacs had an infield single in Centre's final at-bat, but it wasn't enough to spark a rally.

GAME TWO: Berea 3, Centre 0
- Starter Andrea Searcy worked her way out of a pair of jams in the third and fourth innings, stranding a total of five base runners across those two frames while punching out four.
- The Mountaineers manufactured runs in each of the fifth, sixth and seventh innings, however.
- Centre was held to only two hits and three total baserunners by Berea pitcher Madison McIntosh, who finished with seven strikeouts.
- Searcy (six) and Baseheart (three) combined for nine strikeouts while allowing six hits and two earned runs.
