Centre softball drops a pair of close games to open spring break trip

LEESBURG, Fla. – Centre softball lost to Bowdoin and Washington & Jefferson Monday in its first outing at The Spring Games, taking place at the Sleepy Hollow Sports Complex.

GAME ONE: Bowdoin 6, Centre 2
- Lucy Baseheart recorded three strikeouts in the first two innings to start the game on a strong note for Centre.
- Bowdoin plated two runs on a throwing error in the third inning to begin the scoring, and added three more on two hits and two Colonel errors in the fourth.
- Centre got on the board in the fifth, as Sawyer Lecius singled up the middle to bring home Kaylee Gregory.
- In the sixth, Sam Rogers got on base with a one-out single to right field. Arabella Fowler came on to pinch run, and eventually crossed home to bring the Colonels within 6-2.
- Kaylen Storms got on base with a walk in Centre's final at-bat, but the Polar Bears were able to maintain their lead and close out the victory.
- Baseheart totaled six strikeouts in the circle, and Branan Cobb allowed one run in three innings of relief.

GAME TWO: Washington & Jefferson 5, Centre 4
- The Colonels scored all four of their runs in the top of the second inning, tagging W&J starter Sydney Petrowski for five hits. Alana Fullen drove in Gregory for the game's first run, and two more scored on a deep double from Storms. Mia Tomillo followed with a RBI groundout that brought in Lecius.
- A pair of Centre errors helped the Presidents get two runs back in the bottom of the frame. In the third, W&J got RBI base hits from Peyton Eckenrode and Olivia Dewick to tie the game at 4-4 before reliever Andrea Searcy struck out two to get out of the inning.
- The Presidents took the lead in the bottom of the sixth after loading the bases with the first three batters. After scoring one run, their rally was cut short on a fantastic double play by Brylin Isaacs.
- Centre managed just two hits on Petrowski after its big four-run second inning, however, and couldn't extend the game despite getting the tying run on base in the top of the seventh.
