Centre’s second half propels past Piedmont

ATHENS, Ga. – Coming off of a heart-breaking loss earlier this week at home, the Centre women's lacrosse team (5-5) looked to bounce back in their second of three games this week on Thursday night. The Colonels traveled out to Piedmont and put on an outstanding offense performance, winning the match on a final score of 19-9.
 
GAME HIGHLIGHTS
- The Gold and White were the first two strike, Isa Stumpf and Emma Botts each knocking in a goal to kick off the game with a two-goal lead.
- Piedmont was able to take the lead early in the second period on a score of 5-4 with 10:34 left.
- The Colonels were able to rattle off four-unanswered scores in response coming from four different individuals on offense. McKenna Hulette and Lily Gahm each earned a goal and an assist during the strong run.
- Botts was able to conclude the first half with Gold and White momentum, scoring her second goal of the day to give Centre a three-game lead at halftime.
- Although Piedmont was ablt to strike first in the second half of action, the Gold and White where able to stream four-straight goals once again to push their lead to six. Gahm was able to influence three of the goals during the stretch (two goals, one assist).
- With a six-goal lead heading into the final period of action, the Colonels would outscore the Lions 6-2 to close out the victory. Haley Rice would secure a pair of goals during the fourth period alone, one being from the free position. 

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Thursday's performance marks the seventh-straight game that the Colonels have score at least 10 goals in a single contest, the last time accomplishing that was in the 2019 season.
- The offensive pressure was on full-force on Thursday night, putting up a season-high 41 shots and converting 13 out of 14 attempted clears.
- Gahm's nine points marks a season-high for the 2021 SAA Newcomer of the Year, coming off of five goals and four assists.
- Botts' four goals against Piedmont marks a career-high for the sophomore, scoring an even two goals in each half of action.
- Ella Treinen's four ground balls not only marks a season-high for the Louisville, Ky., native, but now makes the fourth game this season of collecting three or more in a single contest. 

UP NEXT
The Colonels will have one more contest this week, staying in Georgia to compete in an inner-conference matchup on Saturday, March 26. The Gold and White will take on Oglethorpe, the SAA Tournament Semifinal rematch kicking off at 12 p.m. in Atlanta, Ga.
