LEXINGTON, Ky. - Centre softball made the quick trip up US 27 for a midweek rivalry doubleheader against the Transylvania Pioneers. The Colonels dropped both games by respective scores of 7-0 and 9-1.
Game 1: Transylvania 7, Centre 0
- The Colonels loaded the bases in each of the first two innings, but starter
Lucy Baseheart did a good job on damage control, limiting Transy to just one run.
- Centre put runners on first and second in both the second and third innings, but the Colonels were unable to provide the RBIs to tie the score.
- Transylvania led off the fifth with consecutive doubles to plate their second run, and then loaded the bases and brought everybody home with a bases-clearing triple to break things open. The Pioneers got their last runs off of a two-run homer in the sixth.
Game 2: Transylvania 9, Centre 1
- Transy struck quickly in game 2, scoring four runs in the first inning and another one in the second.
- After failing to capitalize on another runner in scoring position during the second inning, Centre broke through in the third.
Hailey Watson led off with a walk,
Alana Fullen singled and
Sawyer Lecius reached on catcher's interference. One passed ball later and Watson scored to put the Colonels on the board.
- The Pioneers scored a run in the fourth on a passed ball and then added three in the fifth to get the run rule win.
